New eco printers can make your ink disappear

The fictional paper supply business Dunder Miflin on the hit TV show The Office may no longer be in business thanks to the latest technology from Toshiba of Canada Ltd.

Toshiba has launched e-Studio306LP multi-function printer with a sidekick device that erases toner from paper. In this slideshow you will see the latest Tosbiba printer models along with the erasing process and a before and after photo.

Toshiba’s eco-friendly multi-function printer

Toshiba’s e-Studio306LP is a multi-functional printer with a sidekick. The e-StudioRD30 incorporate a unique erasable toner allowing users to reuse a paper up to five times. The e-Studio306LP works in conjunction with the e-StudioRD30, called a paper reusing device, by applying heat to the thermally sensitive toner, causing the colour to disappear.

Toshiba sidekick device saves on paper

The e-STUDIORD30 also sorts paper into reusable and un-reusable sheets simultaneously while removing toner. Prior to erasing, the device digitizes documents that can then be saved and filed for future use, avoiding office clutter and cutting up to five times the paper waste.

Toshiba e-Studio MFPs come with security

The machine is priced at $15,000. But it also includes a proprietary PC chip technology to ensure that data from what is often a company’s printing and communications hub is as secure as the data on a Toshiba laptop.

Before and after with the Toshiba e-StudioRD30

The first page was mailed to by Toshiba. After going through the e-StudioRD30 the ink on the page is erased. A closer look would reveal a ghosting effect on the page. Toshiba says that reused paper should not be used for customer-facing documents but if you tend to print your emails reused paper can do the trick.

Here is how it all works

Scan the output via a network or USB drive for archiving. The e-StudioRD30 sorts the paper, which can also have hand-written anotations, to see if it can be reused or not. If it can’t be reused then it goes into the top tray.
The print speed comes in at 30 pages per minute, while the first copy out time is just under five seconds.

An upscale MFP model from Toshiba

The e-Studio line was not the only MFP released by Toshiba. The e-Studio 5055c, at $25,000, can copy, print, scan and fax quieter and in a smaller footprint.  The new e-STUDIO5055c is designed to replace black and white printing models with full colour process, while still producing high quality black and white documents. It comes with AquaAce specialty paper support, which is water, weather and fade resistant laminated paper.
