Staples hosts female entrepreneurs for International Women’s Day

Office supply retail chain Staples is inviting female entrepreneurs to share their stories and showcase their businesses to mark International Women’s Day.

While the holiday is officially observed on March 8, the retailer is hosting public presentations in-store by female entrepreneurs to share their professional experiences all weekend.

“Since 1991, Staples has been committed to supporting local entrepreneurs,” said Craig Taylor, senior vice president of e-commerce and marketing at Staples Canada in a statement. “We appreciate the critical role that women play in our communities, economy and families, and are delighted to help women make more happen on International Women’s Day but, more importantly, all year long.”

In addition, the Staples is also organizing Twitter chats in both English and French, led by Leigh Mitchell, owner of Canadian Women in Business, and Mahée Paiement, a Quebec movie and television actress who founded her own perfume and accessories company.  According to Staples, the two women will field questions on entrepreneurship and share personal business achievements and challenges.

This is the second year that the company has featured local businesses to mark the holiday.

“Bureau en Gros has been there for me as a self-employed actress and now as a business owner,” said Paiement in the statement. “I’m delighted to participate in the company’s International Women’s Day campaign and its efforts to help women in business or those who are considering such a move.”
