Root announces plans to build third data centre in Montreal

Root Data Center has announced plans to build a third data centre in Montreal.

The new data centre will become part of its MTL-RI La Salle campus and will create an additional 10 megawatts (MW) of power capacity, the company explained during the announcement yesterday. Approximately 20 per cent of the new facility’s capacity has already been sold.

As their businesses grow, our customers depend upon us to provide the additional capacity necessary to ensure expansion can take place and meet the increasingly fast growth rates of our customers,” explained AJ Byers, president and CEO of Root Data Center.  “With a commitment to evolving alongside new and future tenants, Root is helping to make Montréal a data center location of choice for growing global enterprises, ultimately boosting the region’s economy.”

The number of cloud-based companies in the Montreal area is growing, added Byers, making the need for additional capacity very important. Similar to its other data centres in Montreal, Root’s new one will also offer several strategic advantages for businesses, such as the fact that nearly 100 per cent of the province’s electricity is hydro-electrically generated, making it an environmentally responsible option for data centre applications. The company also says the province’s cool climate and low power rates, which are among the lowest in North America, makes their colocation solutions substantially more cost-effective than others.
