Veeam Co-CEO Peter McKay & Nutanix President Sudheesh Nair

WASHINGTON D.C. – Enterprise cloud provider Nutanix has tagged Veeam Software as its premiere availability solution provider.

Veeam’s flagship Availability Suite, its enterprise class availability solution, will now have added support for Nutanix AHV. This support for AHV is expected to release within the next quarter, and definitely be for the end of 2017.

“I met with [Nutanix CEO] Dheeraj Pandey and we dared each other to take big bets on one another,” said Peter McKay, Co-CEO and president of Veeam  to CDN at Nutanix’ annual .NEXT conference. “It started with the customers and the partners asking for this sort of marriage between the two products, and you can’t deny the momentum that Nutanix has in the market. It makes for a very compelling opportunity for us to work together.”

And this updated partnership between the two companies will benefit channel partners on both sides. Both companies are 100 per cent channel allowing for Veeam partners and Nutanix partners to sell both products. Adding always-on data protection to the Nutanix platform should excite Nutanix partners who may have had to also go to a vendor like Dell EMC when making a sale.

“If you look at the partner’s environment, they are all going after a pie. The more you control, the better your margins will be. Now partners can comfortably use this unique go-to market model. We are trying to take Veeam and Nutanix partners and enable them together,” said Sudheesh Nair, president of Nutanix to CDN.

Adding Veeam as the primary availability solution provider boosts both organizations branding. For Veeam, it puts its availability solution in front of more enterprise customers, a big plus considering its reputation that it is a mid-market product.

“I think Veeam is one of those companies that is really underappreciated for their power. They really made VMware on enterprise class products, because they didn’t really have a good solution around data protection until Veeam came along and changed the game. It’s a product that customers really like,” said Nair.

“With a company that has the market reach of Nutanix and their momentum to say that we are their premiere provider is important to us. It sends a message to the market that we are working very closely together,” said McKay. “We are betting on the Nutanix-side as well. It’s not just a marketing message, but we are working closely together on development, go-to market, packaging, etc. – the complete story is very compelling.”

For Nutanix, it gives its partners the opportunity to control more of the pie. They no longer have to package on another data protection solution from another vendor.

“By supporting AHV, there is an opportunity for our existing customers and their existing customers to put two and two together. Native data protection, replication, and everything,” said Nair.
