In 2013, Nitin Kawale, the president of Cisco Canada, established himself as one of the great deal makers in the Canadian channel.

The networking vendor bet big on the province of Ontario and furthered company CEO John Chambers’ Canadian agenda by inking an agreement that may see Cisco’s employee base in Ontario soar to more than 5,000 people by 2024.

The historic agreement adds up to 1,700 high tech jobs with a focus on R&D within the first six years. If fully realized, that would represent ab investment of up to $4 billion by Cisco, including up to $2.2 billion in salaries alone. The Government of Ontario will provide up to $220 million in support of the total initiative.

Kawale was already expanding Cisco’s presence in Ontario with a major investment in university chairs, the Pan Am Games and technology sponsorship at Smart Connected communities.

On top of that, Kawale conformed the subsidiary is panning for a new and expanded Toronto headquarters.
