Montreal-based B2B telecom provider launches hybrid cloud offering

Canadian enterprise telecom provider Ormuco has announced its bid for the hybrid cloud market with the launch of its own data centres, and is not above paying companies to become their customer.

“In Canada, for companies that have on-premise equipment, we can look at what they have, offer them cash right from the gate, pay you for your legacy equipment and do the migration for the enterprise customer,” said Michael Malynowsky, chief operating officer at Ormuco Inc. “We would make sure the VM requirements are fully met for any migrations from their on-prem to our cloud.”

Malynowsky explained that Ormuco’s data centres, which are based on HP Helion OpenStack, can create private networks allows both public and private data centre needs to be met in one environment and address both a company’s developers and their operations team.

The Montreal-based company has set up data centres in its hometown as well as in Dallas, Texas and Sunnyvale, California.

“They can scale up and create instances in seconds,” Malynowsky said, adding that customers have control over not just instances but also CPU, router and switch configurations.  “It’s extremely user friendly.”

Among Ormuco’s clients include several game studios, including Japanese game giant Square Enix.

As for the seven-year old company’s decision to go with HP technology, Malynowsky did not mince words.

“We needed to partner with somebody big,” he said.  “There’s Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, we noticed that HP revenue was at $111 billion.  HP had a need, besides having huge revenues, they didn’t have a strategic answer for public cloud.  We’re going to hit them right now to strategically develop technology for HP.”
