HPE unveils persistent memory solutions and a new Intel Xeon platform

HPE is expanding its server portfolio today with the announcement of a new ProLiant Gen9 server portfolio along with new compute platforms both with built-in support for persistent memory.

According to HPE, the solutions announced are designed for a hybrid infrastructure environment. They include:

HPE Persistent Memory

The first product in the HPE Persistent Memory portfolio is the HPE 8GB NVDIMM. This technology is designed to accelerate database and analytic workloads. It`s designed around industry-standard NVDIMM-N technology, working with standards bodies such as JEDEC and SNIA, and includes back-up power from the HPE Smart Storage Battery, which supports up to 16 NVDIMMs for moving data from DRAM to Flash when power is lost.

New Intel Xeon platform

The new Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processor was designed to support up to 22 cores and memory speeds of up to 2400MT/s. It includes enhancements to virtualization, security and orchestration.

DRAM in multiple configurations.

The company is releasing DDR4 2400 MHz memory at various capacities starting at 8GB. Capacity tops out at 128GB LRDIMMs.

Solid State Drives

HPE NVMe SSDs offer up to 2TB of storage and includes Express Bay for front access to drives, designed for tasks such as online transaction processing, business intelligence and big data analytics.

Smart authentication

HPE is adding TCG Trusted Platform Module 2.0 specification 1.16 to ProLiant Gen 9 servers to improve security. TPM supports Microsoft BitLocker, which stores authentication elements, such as passwords and encryption keys.

Application Migration to Cloud Solution

Lastly, HPE is offering secure, tested and validated reference architecture to help customers migrate on-premises applications to a private cloud.

Pricing and Availability

The ProLiant Gen9 server options and related solutions are now available through HPE and channel partners. HPE 8GB NVDIMM will be available in May 2016 and will be initially supported on HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen9 servers with Intel E5-2600 v4 processors.
