Hashtag Trending – BlackBerry Jarvis, bad robots, Disney departures

BlackBerry’s CEO unveils a new product at the biggest auto show of the year. Nobody’s impressed with the robots on display at CES. And Disney’s losing some social cache.

Trending on Google, BlackBerry CEO John Chen’s keynote at the Detroit auto show. The North American International Auto Show kicked off yesterday and Chen took the opportunity to announce a new product. BlackBerry Jarvis is a cloud service that scans developer code and identifies security vulnerabilities. It can also help keep compliant with industry standards. In a video released today, BlackBerry explains why it’s targeting the auto industry with this product first.

CES Was Full of Useless Robots and Machines That Don’t Work from technology

From Reddit, CES was full of robots that do nothing. Now I was at CES myself and I know exactly what these people are talking about. A lot is being made of LG’s voice assistant interaction not working during its keynote demo. Now demos don’t always go as you’d hope. But the fact that LG’s new fleet of concept robots – a trio that are designed to help people out in airports and hotels didn’t even move or function at all – didn’t help. But these were the concept robots they had on display. The other two robots in the same line that were previewed last year were on full display. I watched the lawn mower robot in the booth and I really wanted one. Then I remembered that I don’t have a lawn.

On LinkedIn, bad news for Disney’s board of directors. Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey won’t be returning. We hope that Disney doesn’t lose its social media magic as a result. It runs several social games designed for kids, including Club Penguin Island and the upcoming Star Wars Rivals.
