Epson revamps projector line for the SMB

Known primarily for its printers, Epson is shifting gears towards the small-to-medium size business market.

The company has been working for two years to revamp its EX Series projectors for the SMB.

Epson product manager Brian Savarese told CDN that the company has added a new model to the portfolio with a focus on stress free set-up.

The new model called the EX7220 and it features wireless capabilities. With a wireless connection, SMB users can work with iProjection, Epson’s free app that enables them view content from a smartphone running iOS or Android.  Wireless also enables users to display content on a network of projectors.

Savarese also said that the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend played a major part in the design of the new projector. “BYOD is increasing in the marketplace and this new projector supports your favourite tablet or smartphone and it will work seamlessly with the EX7220 for work and for personal use,” he said.

The EX7220 can also create a mini-Wi-Fi network. The EX7220 compliments existing projectors from Epson: the EX3220, EX5220, and EX6220.

Savarese added that all products in the EX line will come standard with 3000 lumens.

“At the end of the day, these products reinforces what SMB customers want and that is to use their laptops for showing content on the screen whether its charts, videos, or logos. They do not want to worry about the colour or the brightness. They want to come in and make a presentation with no sacrifices,” he said.

Epson’s channel strategy for the EX Series is to work with top retailers such as FutureShop, Best Buy and Staples to reach the SMB in Canada.

According to Savarese, the EX Series products fits well for conference rooms of 12 people but can also accommodate larger boardrooms inside small medium enterprises.

The EX Series feature 3LCD, 3-chip technology that automatically balances white, red, green and blue colours for video signals. These projectors do not use the DLP technology that is based on a colour wheel, Savarese said.

All models in the EX Series have flexible positioning with automatic vertical keystone and a horizontal keystone slider.

The EX7220 is priced at $699. The EX3220 has an entry-level price of $499, while the EX5220 costs $599 and the EX6220 is $649.

All four projectors weigh just over five pounds and have a lamp life of more than 6,000 hours.

Wireless capabilities are also featured on the EX5220 and the EX6220. The EX6220 and EX7220 can accommodate widescreen presentations.
