Earth Rangers greens up its storage

Earth Rangers is a non-profit organization that endeavors to teach children about conservation and inspire them to help change the world into a healthier planet.

The Earth Rangers facility in North Toronto is one of the most environmentally friendly in the world and plays host to more than 300,000 school age kids and their parents.

It data centre is considered to be one of the best green IT glass houses in Canada, but the organization was using far too much energy for its liking.

Earth Rangers turned to Compugen, one of the top Canadian-based solution providers on CDN’s Top 100 list for help. Compugen developed a plan centered on Pillar Data Systems storage equipment. Pillar Data has been plugging along with its unique storage solutions that seamlessly unite SAN and NAS. The company is noted for being one of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison’s pet projects.

Earth Rangers deployed the Pillar Axiom in its data centre saved approximately 100,000 kWh per year.

In this exclusive video feature, CDN takes a tour of the Earth Rangers data centre with comments from its IT Director Rob DiStefano as well as Pillar CEO Mike Workman.
