D&H brings American Black Friday to Canada

Nov. 29th is Black Friday for many Americans. Black Friday is the day after U.S. Thanksgiving and marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Traditionally Black Friday means heavily discounted items on electronics, which is met with long line-ups of people outside major big box retailers. Canadians usually lament at the fact that they cannot participate in festivities or have to wait until Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) for these door crasher specials.

But D&H Canada is trying to solve that for the channel. The distributor has been working with major vendors to entice them to offer either competitive prices, rebates or special discounts in an effort to boost year-end sales for solution providers.

D&H Canada will have specials running through to Boxing Day.  These include rebates ranging from a few dollars all the way up to more than $400.00 per item, depending upon the individual item’s original price-tag; and discounts of up to 30 per cent on select merchandise.

Promotions apply in product categories such as SSD drives, Bluetooth tablet and PC accessories, memory products, Wi-Fi and USB peripherals, iPod and iPad cases, chargers, wall mounts, gaming gear, and power supplies.

D&H told CDN that it plans to make available more than 150 specials from its vendors and expects to have scores of additional offers available before Black Friday arrives on November 29.  Participating D&H Canada vendors include Atdec, Aluratek, Corsair, CODi, Eye-Fi, FAVI, Garmin, Griffin, iHome, Kensington, Livescribe, MacAlly, Microsoft, Steel Series, Thermaltake and Verbatim.

According to D&H, retailers and resellers in Canada have begun to embrace Black Friday, originally as a strategy to deter consumers from shopping “south of the border” for American Black Friday sales.  Since the event coincides with the beginning of the holiday shopping season, its promotions serve to bolster year-end numbers.  By directing dealers, retailers and etailers to rebates and discounts, D&H Canada believes it can help raise margins for its customers, and/or allow them to pass along more competitive deals, maximizing profit potentials.

Greg Tobin, general manager at D&H Canada, said Black Friday has been gaining traction in the Canadian marketplace, and the company wanted customers to be able to take full advantage.

“As a distribution partner, our goal is to provide as many tools as possible to help our resellers deliver competitive deals to ready themselves for this crucial sales opportunity,” he said.
