Dell launches SuperMassive 9800 firewall

Dell Inc., launched its new SuperMassive 9800 next gen firewall at the Dell Security Peak Performance Conference.

This firewall is aimed at midsize and large enterprise organizations and Dell claims 97.9 per cent security effectiveness without hurting execution.

“Security is at the frontline of what we do,” a senior executive from Dell SonicWall said. “The SuperMassive 9800 can help manage anywhere between 100-200 customers firewalls. This will help partners service their customers economically.”

On the other hand, Dell revealed that International relief and development (IRD), a not for profit organization has implemented the Dell SonicWall NSA and TZ series firewalls to enhance safety for its operation worldwide. Dell claims that use of its solutions has helped save the humanitarian organization about 1 million dollars.

“Dell’s solutions are running in Cambodia, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Sudan and Afghanistan in 130 degree temperatures. They run on generators saving the organization a lot of money,”Christine McDermott, senior manager, partner marketing, at Dell’s software division said,

Since IRD is accountable to the government for how it spends the money donated by them, it needs to maintain data in secure locations in such countries.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are passed through the organization to those in need all over the world. There is not just money but a lot of financial and private information which needs the highest level of security. Moreover, the company also needs to go through financial audits about how and on what it spends the money.

The major problem the organization faces is the high temperatures and lack of proper internet and power infrastructure in third world countries. To run network traffic and operations safely, the company uses Dell’s solutions which protect IRD’s financial data.

“Our solutions are enabling government audits for the organization while ensuring that the firewall remains resilient in challenging environments,” Dermott said.

It is interesting to note that the solutions which are used in organizations on a day to day basis also runs in such challenging environments.
