D-Link Systems added to its Gigabit Ethernet portfolio of access points this week with the release of both indoor and outdoor 802.11ac units.
The first product in the announcement is the 802.11ac Unified Wireless Outdoor Access Point (DWL-8710AP), which the vendor noted was designed for deployment in enterprise and campus environments. The 8710 comes equipped with a rugged IP67-compliant housing designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and dual-band support for 802.11ac devices.
The access point is also outfitted with 802.3at PoE support so it can be installed where power outlets are not readily available. It can also be powered by a separately-powered PoE Injector.
The other new product is the Dual-Band 802.11ac Unified Wireless Access Point (DWL-6610AP), which was designed with small business needs in mind. D-Link engineered the 6610 specifically for small businesses that lack the resources to do complicated network management tasks. It features beamforming technology, which D-Link indicated enables more flexibility in how the access point is deployed and utilized.
The access point also includes 802.1p QoS and self-configuring cluster features. The goal is to make it simpler to deploy and manage multiple access points, even when the in-house technical talent is lacking.
“D-Link is committed to developing optimally priced solutions for today’s businesses and schools that meet the demands of increasing mobile users and wireless devices,” Oscar Reyes, vice president of marketing at D-Link Systems, in a statement. “D-Link’s new access points are highly manageable and capable of blazing speeds, integrating seamlessly into existing network infrastructure.”
D-Link is selling both access points through its channel partners and distributors. Both are now available. The 8710AP is priced at US$1,199.99, while the 6610AP carries a price tag of US$659.99. Both are list prices only.
