Christmas puts heavy demand on Allrecipes.com’s data centre

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Unless you’re a data centre administrator at popular holiday web sites such as Allrecipes.com, which must ensure their infrastructure is ready to contend with a seasonal spike in traffic.

According to a report from Networkworld, Thanksgiving and Christmas are peak traffic times for the recipe web site, as millions prepare for elaborate home-cooked meals. The site’s traffic went from its usual one million page views/hour to 2.2 million in the lead-up to Thanksgiving, and another major spike is expected for Christmas.
