Check Point hires high profile Canadian channel chief

CDN has learned Ang Valentini has left Avaya Canada for a big role at Israeli security vendor Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.

Check Point is a multinational vendor of network and endpoint security products include new mobile solutions. Check Point’s Canadian offices are in Ottawa, while its U.S. HQ is in San Carlos, Calif.

Earlier today, Valentini confirmed to CDN his new title at Check Point will be Head of Channels for Checkpoint – America’s International.

He was the Avaya Canada channel chief since April of 2016. Valentini, who sometimes goes by Angelo, was the chief financial officer at Cisco Canada and left that position in 2015. Valentini was the acting channel chief of Cisco Canada in 2009 in-between the period of office of Ross Pellizzari and Donna Wittmann.

While at Avaya Canada Valentini took care of partner engagement through channel programs in through established partners. Santiago Aguirre has taken over Valentini’s responsibilities for the Canadian subsidiary. Aguirre became Avaya’s new Channel Chief for the Americas International region in February of 2016. Avaya’s Americas International region includes Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean for the Basking Ridge, N.J.-based networking and collaboration vendor.

Meanwhile at Check Point, Valentini faces a new challenge were the security vendor is working towards building its network of technology partners through its Open Platform for Security program and APIs. The program is an open, multi-vendor security framework and sports more than 350 partners worldwide.

Valentini’s appointment comes at a time when Check Point enters a partnership with Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency, to offer both companies and individuals an overview about the growing threat of ransomware.

Through this partnership Check Point is expected to trace the evolution of ransomware. The two plan to work together to deliver practical advice for organizations and individuals on preventing ransomware from infecting their machines, and best-practice tips on how to respond to and recover from a ransomware attack.

Check Point also attained the Amazon Web Services Security Competency, which ensures the delivery of advanced threat prevention security for data and workloads in the AWS Cloud.
