A $35 million year-over-year spike in revenue, combined with a firm grasp on the public sector market has helped earn Micro Age this year’s Newcomer Award for the CDN Top 100 Solutions Provider 2017.

The company has gone through what Rene Auger describes as a natural evolution since it first began operating in the business IT market.

“We’ve gone from a business to consumer, to a volume-centric organization as a reseller,” says the company’s vice-president of business development, adding they transitioned into a managed service provider role three years ago.

Micro Logic opened a new office in Montreal last year, which Auger says greatly contributed to the company’s 2017 success. The company’s annual revenue was “well-over” $100,000,000 after its fiscal year, which ended in April, he adds.

Micro Logic is well-versed in not only cloud, but hyper convergence technology and virtualization, said Auger.

“There’s a lot of customers in mid-sized businesses doing a lot of thinking about data centre transformation,” he says. “They’re looking to move away from the traditional IT infrastructure.”

The public sector, specifically government, education and health care services, is familiar territory for Micro Logic, but for several years the company has found itself pushing further into the private sector. The transition hasn’t thrown Micro Logic off its game, but Auger says it has broadened their understanding of how tech savvy businesses really are.

“I think it’s surprising how few organizations are cloud aware,” he explains. “In some cases, they jumped into cloud years ago, and now they’re asking themselves why they did that.”

Now, Mico Logic has a healthy mix of both private and public sector customers that the company will look to expand throughout 2018. Auger says the public sector is still where most of their customers come from.

Cloud is a no-brainer in today’s world, he adds, and it’s been important for Micro Logic to maintain a high level of trust with the local market that has stuck with them since the 80’s.

“For a long time, we were a Quebec City-centric organization that focused its market very locally. But we’re starting to spread out now,” says Auger. “We’re looking to gain that additional recognition.”
