Cloud services provider SherWeb of Sherbrooke, QC has announced the acquisition of Orcs Web Inc., a Windows-based managed hosting provider based in Charlotte, NC.
According to the company, OrcsWeb will operate as a wholly-owned SherWeb subsidiary. Terms of the acquisition, which is SherWeb’s third such deal in three years, were not disclosed. This is SherWeb’s first acquisition in the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) segment, which has been an area of recent focus for the company.
“SherWeb’s expansion into IaaS will enable us to offer customers and channel partners more value and choice from the cloud, without having to invest in or maintain complex infrastructure themselves,” said SherWeb’s co-founder and president, Matthew Cassar, in a staement. “OrcsWeb naturally complements our overall business strategy because their depth of expertise in managed Windows hosting is one of several areas of diversification that will be critical to cloud services providers in the near future.”
OrcsWeb has four data centres in the Charlotte area, and has been focused on shared, cloud and dedicated server hosting solutions and Microsoft-based solutions since 1996.

Sherweb is set to launch a Microsoft Exchange-powered cloud office suite aimed at resellers looking to provide their customers more functionality that what Office 365 can offer later this year.
