Acer to offer WD storage in its cloud ecosystem

Computer hardware vendor Acer has announced that it has partnered with storage solution provider WD to offer the latter’s My Cloud NAS on its BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud) ecosystem.

The solution uses Acer’s abFiles app to allow customers to access files stored in the My Cloud NAS from their PC or mobile device.

“The availability of abFiles for the My Cloud platform allows our joint customers to enjoy seamless file management across their personal devices,” Maverick Shih, president of BYOC business group at Acer said in a statement.

Models that support abFiles include My Cloud Mirror, My Cloud Expert Series and My Cloud Business Series.  With the app, users can sign in with an Acer ID, at which time My Cloud will be added to their BYOC environment.

According to Acer, users can control the privacy of their files as they are stored on local NAS devices as opposed to remote data centres.
