While Android and iOS users have been eagerly downloading BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) this week, BlackBerry users are getting a treat too with the release of BlackBerry OS 10.2.
The smartphone vendor said Wednesday that BlackBerry OS 10.2 will begin rolling out to Z10, Q10 and Q5 users in Canada, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific this week through their carriers, with other countries to follow.
BlackBerry says the updated OS has hundreds of new features and refinements to make users more productive and stay better connected. Among them are:
Priority Hub: The Hub will now learn what messages are the most important to you based on your behaviour, and move them to the top of your inbox. And Attachment View will help you find your attachments across accounts.
BBM Video with Natural Sound: Improved audio and video quality for BBM video chats between BlackBerry 10 devices, with a wider sound spectrum captured for in-the-room quality.
Instant Previews: New BBM, SMS and e-mail messages can now be previewed, and responded to, from within any app with a single swipe.
BlackBerry Keyboard: For the soft keypad users on the Z10 and Z30, a new keyboard with personalized word-suggestion and auto-correct, and improved audio feedback with distinct tones for specific keys.
Copy and Paste: More precise cursor control and easier text selection, with pop-up sharing options.
Easier Sharing: The OS will learn how you share and with whom, and give you suggestions based on that behaviour when you press the share button from any app.
Lock Screen Notifications: You’ll get a preview of a new message on the lock screen, so you can decide if you need to unlock and read it now, or if it can wait for later.
Enhanced Calendar: A redesigned interface, and an “I’m running late” feature to quickly let meeting participants know you’ll be a bit late joining them.
