Supercomputer-class laptop is based on nanotechnology

Ottawa-based Eurocom Corp. has developed a supercomputer-class laptop – the Panther 7N – that the vendor said utilizes nanotechnology.

According to Eurocom, it used nanotechnology to create a smaller, yet more powerful computing platform that allows the new laptop to support two 16 core Intel Xeon Processors, two NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics processors, 256 GB DDR3-1866 memory and up to 8 TB SAS storage in what it’s calling a “mobile supercomputer.”

Nanoionic technology allowed Eurocom engineers to fit the components of a super computer into the chassis of a large notebook, and it said the low voltage requirements of the carbon nanotubes used in the design of the wiring and transistors allowed Eurocom engineers to lower the thermal dissipation requirements of the chassis design, which dramatically lowers the power and cooling requirements.

Display of 4k resolution is supported, and the system is powered by two Intel Xeon 16 core processors. There are eight memory slots ready for up to 256GB of dual channel DDR3 1866MHz CBRAM via 32 GB memory modules. It can fit up to four storage drives with support for up to 8 TB of total SAS storage with RAID 0,1,5,10 capability.

The Panther 7N has integrated micro solar panels on the palm rest, display bezel and back panel.  The micro solar panels, which are only 50 micrometers thick, are embedded in the notebook chassis and appears as brushed aluminum.  It also has a 16 cell high capacity battery ( 178.42 WH) battery.

It weighs in at a hefty 12.1 lbs.
