Red Hat names first Women in Open Source Award winners

Sarah Sharp, embedded software architect at Intel, and Kesha Shah, a student at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology have been named as the first winners of Red Hat’s Women in Open Source Awards.

At its annual summit, the software maker announced its choice in both the Community and Academic categories of women who made outstanding achievements in open source.

Sharp, who is a co-coordinator for Outreachy, which helps underrepresented groups get involved in open source software projects, won the Community award “for her tireless efforts in improving communications and women’s roles in the opensource community,” Red Hat said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Shah, who is a full-time student, received the Academic award for outstanding coding and mentoring work while studying information and communication technology.
