New Orleans, LA – Red Hat has been hard at work. The company that was and is still known more for its open source Linux offerings has been quietly working on becoming an alternative for hybrid cloud offerings.

While the company once focused on eliminating closed software stacks to allow for new configurations, today, the software vendor is very much looking to offer these alternatives itself.

Take its new partnership with Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), a multinational data centre solution provider.

At its North American Partner Conference, Red Hat announced that it would be collaborating with QCT on software-defined OpenStack and Ceph infrastructure.

The collaboration will come in three areas, namely through joint testing, reference architectures, and a cloud solution center.

In physical configurations, QCT will combine the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, Ceph Storage and Enterprise Linux with its line of servers, storages and network switches.

The resulting solutions are primarily a private cloud play.

“For people that want to make sure they get away from their closed infrastructures, here is one more choice,” Jim Whitehurst, president and CEO of Red Hat told CDN. “Nobody wants a thousand OpenStacks out there. Red Hat is the one place that certifies it. Whatever you run, you know it’ll run in a performant way.”

Meanwhile, QCT’s Cloud Solution Centres, based in San Jose, CA and Taiwan will also see support from Red Hat.

These centres help customers test and implement infrastructure solutions and will now see Red Hat experts contribute to hybrid cloud deployments.

Lastly, Red Hat and QCT have developed joint reference architectures to help with deploying Red Hat’s software-defined storage platform called Ceph, and Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform on QCT servers, storages and switches. This reference architecture is available on the configuration of QCT QxStor Red Hat Ceph Storage Edition featuring QCT QuantaGrid D51PH-1ULH and QCT QuantaPlex T21P-4U servers.
