Study for your test and you won’t need to guess – Part 3: Practice makes perfect

Chip Wenz shares some tips on how to best prepare for certification exams.
“How does a practice exam show you how things work? Easy, you use the answers that you don’t get right on the practice exam as a starting point to kick start your studies (any answers that I get wrong get plugged into my favorite search engine and I try to find out all that I can about what I got wrong). As you are doing this, make sure that you also get information on any of the other answers that you weren’t familiar with. You never know, the next time you get a similar question, one of the other options may be the correct answer.”
HP and Sony double team better storage tape format

Austin Modine outlines HP and Sony’s work together.
“Hewlett-Packard and Sony are putting their heads together again to make a denser breed of Digital Audio Tape drives and cassettes. Even they worked together on the technology, both companies intend to roll out separate flavors of the new DAT 320 format in the first half of 2009. DAT 320 will have backup speeds of up to 86GB per hour with 2:1 data compression.”
There is no such thing as anonymized data, Google

Mike Masnick comments on the idea of having an anonymized dataset.
“With the news out that Google and Viacom have come to an agreement to ‘anonymize’ the data a judge ordered Google to hand over, it’s worth remembering a simple, but important statement: there’s no such thing as a truly anonymized dataset. While it may protect some users, it’s still likely to reveal some users and what they surfed. Given all of this, it’s still quite unclear why Viacom needs this data in the first place. The legal question is whether Google infringed on copyright. Why should Google’s log files be necessary to determine that?”
