New wireless range extenders boost signals to 10,000 feet

Looking to help consumers experiencing wireless signal weak spots in their homes of apartments due to blocking elements or interference from other devices, wireless networking equipment vendor Linksys has announced its new lineup of Linksys Wi-Fi Range Extenders.

Baby monitors, microwaves and DCET phones can often cause trouble with wireless signals, as can walls. Linksys has three new range extenders designed to help maximize wireless coverage and eliminate dead spots: the Linksys AC1200 MAX Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE6500), the Linksys N600 PRO Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE4000W) and the Linksys N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE3000W). The RE6500 and RE4000W are dual band range extenders featuring Cross-Band technology, and all three are compatible with any wireless router and are designed to extend b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi signals.

“Consumers are depending on Wi-Fi for their smartphones to avoid burning through their mobile data plan, or for streaming to TV or tablets in all areas of the home,” said Mike Chen, vice-president product management for Linksys, in a statement. “A stable and strong Wi-Fi signal is critical for connecting the devices in your home today and the devices users are sure to bring into their home in the coming years; a good range extender can help future-proof their home as those devices are added, as well as provide a rich media experience.”

The flagship in the line is the RE6500, with up to 10,000 sq. ft. of coverage and Cross-Band technology to receive data on one band and transmit on another, at the same time, allowing for a stronger, more consistent signal. It has four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a stereo system or audio speaker can be connected to stream music from a smart device or computer. It’s priced at $129.99.

The RE4000W boasts a range of up to 7,500 sq. ft. and also features Cross-Band technology. It has two Fast Ethernet pots and can be plugged directly into a wall outlet. It’s priced at $89.99.

Finally, the RE3000W offers up to 5,000 sq. ft. with N300 Mbps speeds, suited for surfing the web and basic online uses. It can be plugged directly into a wall outlet, has one Ethernet port, and is priced starting at $79.99.

All three are available now through the Linksys channel.
