Ingram Micro to provide unlocked BlackBerry phones to VARs

Ingram Micro Canada has struck a deal with BlackBerry Ltd. that will allow the Ontario-based technology products distributor to sell unlocked BlackBerry smart phones to Canadian retailers and resellers.

BlackBerry (TSE: BB) gains a wider distribution network for its products and services in the country because the phone maker will be benefiting from Ingram Micro Mobility’s supply chain expertise and channel reach to value added resellers (VARs), mobile carriers, retailers, systems integrators and service providers.

A statement from the two companies said that unlocked BlackBerry 10 phones will be available at retail locations and online as well as through VARs.

Ingram Micro Canada is a subsidiary of global technology products distributor Ingram Micro, based in Santa Ana, Calif. Ingram Micro has office in 39 countries, has 132 distribution centres worldwide and represents approximately 1,400 suppliers. The conglomerate has more than 200,000 in about 170 countries.

“Our distribution channel will allow a number of new partners to sell unlocked BlackBerry devices, offering greater choice for customers,” said Steven Roberts, executive director, of Ingram Micro Mobility Canada.

Ingram Micro Mobility delivers supply chain, distribution and recovery solution across all aspects of the mobility device lifecycle. Its services include warehousing, software loading, e-commerce, advanced planning, order management, accounts receivable, credit management, end-user fulfillment, reverse logistics and device repairs and recycling.

“This partnership will make it easier and more convenient for our customers across Canada who value productivity and security to find the BlackBerry 10 smart phone that suits their needs,” said Matt Reaves, head of global distribution at BlackBerry.
