NEW YORK – HP Inc. announced a new line of four mobile workstations highlighted by the ZBook Studio, the company’s first quad core workstation ultrabook.
Lost in that release was HP Inc.’s supporting products. The newly split vendor has introduced new products in display, storage and cooling along with its first thin client with native quad UHD/4K support.
HP Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro is a new storage solution that the vendor claims is 16 times faster than a SATA SSD at a similar cost.
Jim Zafarana, vice president, GM and global head of HP Inc.’s workstations, thin clients and commercial immersive computing, said the turbo drive will “disrupt the price value curve.”
Z turbo drive, he says, is the same price as high-end SSD card but with four to 16 times the performance. Zafarana says on the price performance chart that many vendors use in the industry changes to products occur as the price drops the performance drops as an example.
Z Series Workstations can be equipped with up to four of these Z Turbo Drives that can deliver sequential performance up to 9.0GB/s. In addition, the Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro controls data integrity from power loss so that saved work is protected in the event of a power failure.
The entry-level price is $879.
Priced at just under $600, the HP T730 Thin Client is equipped with next-generation quad-core processing from AMD.
The HP T730 is being targeted at customers who produce a lot of content such as financial services, the oil/gas sector, digital media and entertainment, and engineering.
The HP Z Cooler is a brand new product from the vendor designed to reduce system noise on the Z Series workstation line. The Z Cooler lowers CPU fan speed and delivers up to an 8.5 dBA acoustic level reduction. Josh Peterson, the director of worldwide product management for workstations at HP Inc. said it’s approximately 40 per cent quieter to the human ear. What HP did with the Z Cooler is modify the heat-transfer that combines 3D vapor chamber into a staggered, hex-fin design.
At $120, the Z Cooler tries to eliminate pumps and plumbing and will be available in two models, one for the Z440 and the other for the Z840 workstations.
A whopping 11 models are featured in HP’s new Z Displays line highlighted by the Z22n and Z23n Narrow Bezel IPS Displays models. Both are capable of seamless multi-display setup in sizes ranging from 22-inch to 27-inch diagonal. These displays have a virtually borderless screen for maximum impact imagery, factory colour calibration for optimal color accuracy, and flexible connectivity for all devices.
The HP Z22n and Z23n are available now and priced at $209 and $229 respectively.
Finally, HP re-worked the industrial design of a docking station with the release of the ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt 3. The Thunderbolt 3 is a new docking solution that can handle multiple 4K displays and USBs. The ThunderBolt 3 is a power adaptor that provides 150-watts at 37 per cent smaller size. It’s priced at $229.
The new Z Series mobile workstations also have enhanced audio for video projects from HP alliance partner Bang & Olufsen.
