HP expands 3PAR StoreServ 20000 family, introduces low-cost 8000 line

Less than three months since last updating its 3PAR StoreServ Storage lineup, HP is at it again, with the announcement of a new 8000 family, which the company is touting as having the most affordable all-flash array.

In addition, the new line is designed to give twice the workload performance of previous generations and has built-in “quality of service” controls to assure said performance.

While the StoreServ 8000 line will be quad-node, a new eight-controller StoreServ 20800 AFA starter Kit and software updates for the full 3PAR StoreServ family have been announced.

With the 8000 family, HP’s 3PAR StoreServ all-flash lines now start at $19,479 according to the company.  As with the 20000 family, which HP revisited at its Discover conference in June with the announcement of the 20800 and 20850 models, the 8000 line offers up to 5.5 petabytes of usable flash capacity within a single floor tile.

Meanwhile, in the 20000 families, the 20800 All-Flash Starter Kit has been announced, starting at just under US $100,000, as well as the 20450, an All-Flash Array which scales to 6 petabytes and 1.8 million IOPS.

HP has, of course, included storage federation capabilities to allow the 8000 and 20000 models to work together for “up to 60 PB of aggregate usable capacity in a four-system federation with non-disruptive workload mobility across systems.”

The 8000 line features the same hardware acceleration as those found in the eight-node 20000 line.  It also has HP’s 3PAR Gen5 Thin Express ASIC and what the company claims to be double the bandwidth of competitive platforms, at 20 gbps of read bandwidth.

Furthermore, both flash array families are now certified for SAP HANA Tailored Data Center Integration (TDI) and feature updated 3Par Operating System and File Persona software.

The all-flash 8000 storage systems and 20450 arrays are now available worldwide starting from $19,479 and $85,167 respectively.  The 20800 Starter Kit with 2 controllers, 8 x 480GB cMLC SSD drives, and 3 years of Proactive Care 24×7 support, is available starting in September at $99,995.
