Here’s a look at Alienware’s updated desktop and limited edition laptop portfolio

Alienware has announced updates to an entire portfolio of new gaming devices, including the X51 gaming desktop as well as the 13, 15 and 17 notebooks, and has brought back, for a limited time, the Alienware 18 notebook.

New to the X51 Desktop is a liquid cooling solution along with support for the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, a full-length desktop graphics card.

According to Dell, the new cooling allows for peak performance from Intel’s Core 15K and 17K processors, all while reducing noise. The machine comes standard with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 with 4GB DDR3 graphics card, although there are options for the AMD Radeon R9 370 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960.

Other memory upgrades include support for DDR4 memory, new M.2 PCIe SSDs and USB 3.1 ports. With Windows 10, the new X51 will also wield DirectX 12.

Touting over 20 updates and upgrades, Dell highlighted the new Dynamic Overclocking abilities of the notebooks.  The function supposedly monitors temperatures of the CPU to ensure maximum performance.

The notebooks also come with USB Type-C ports for USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 technology support, PCIe SSD, Killer Wireless-AC 1535 and Killer E2400 High-Performance Gigabit Ethernet controllers.  All notebooks will also now come with Windows 10 and Graphics Amplifier support.

Alienware 17 offers an option Ultra 4K display, while the 13 can come optionally with a touch QHD+ screen.  Unique to the 15 is the option for the new AMD Radeon R9 M395X graphics.

For those brave enough to try a notebook with an 18″ display, the limited edition model offers on-board dual graphics options, an overclocked, upgradeable CPU.  All machines are now available, with additional configurations of the X51 available later this year.
