Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has taken a new approach to introducing new features for its Virtual Storage Platform G series released last year.
Instead of publicizing the new specs HDS is positioning the line as a way to reduce operational costs and open up an avenue to monetize the data collected by the user.
According to HDS, data usually gets trapped in silos in an environment, while the IT department has been tasked to modernize processes, systems and skillsets to produce new revenue opportunities.
To that end, HDS has embedded NAS functionality, cloud optimization and enhanced VMware integration into Virtual Storage Platform G400, G600 and G800 storage platforms.
The G400, G600 and G800 are two NAS modules to help reduce capital expenditures since they provide a single, SAN and NAS storage platform for all workloads.
HDS has pegged operating costs to decline with the G series as they require less power, cooling and space in the data centre.
The unified G series can also leverage existing infrastructure whether for remote offices where IP infrastructure is dominant to data centers utilizing robust Fibre Channel technology or a cloud environment employing Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Managed Cloud Services, Microsoft Azure or Amazon S3 cloud services.
The data migrator to the cloud software feature enables the channel to automated and content-aware data management policies for customers. These policies ensure that data is automatically tiered to private, public or hybrid cloud platforms and freeing up Hitachi Accelerated Flash resources for Tier 1 applications.
These new systems support for VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes for software-defined enterprise environments.
In addition, Hitachi Virtual Infrastructure Integrator 3.0 delivers scalable VM protection through VMbackup, recovery and cloning services for VMware vSphere-based infrastructures.
Paul Lewis, HDS CTO in Canada, said the ever-changing fundamentals of IT demand that storage systems are agile, reliable and cost-effective. The enhanced Virtual Storage Platform line meet those needs and beyond.
