ElasticHosts expands cloud portfolio

Cloud hosting provider ElasticHosts has expanded its portfolio, with the launch of Cloud Sites and Managed Cloud Servers.

The new offerings are aimed at helping all sizes of business easily access and manage their cloud services, while offering scalability and strong disaster recovery protection.

ElasticHosts, a UK-based company that was early to the cloud space, said it was keen to serve customers right from “micro businesses with no technical expertise”, to small businesses with good technology knowledge, and large enterprises.

The Cloud Sites offering is aimed at providing scalable, redundant cloud web hosting for standard PHP/MySQL websites, without the need for any server administration. It hosts files for the customer, providing the flexibility of the cloud without them having to manage the underlying servers.

Managed Cloud Servers, on the other hand, offers customers server management, cloud migration assistance, monitoring capabilities, and back-up and disaster recovery services. It also allows firms to deploy a range of applications, including WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Magento and Java Servlets, with the Cloudways team helping businesses plan, deploy and manage these on Linux or Windows platforms.

Richard Davies, CEO at ElasticHosts, said: “Although some organisations need full admin access and control, many simply want to host web pages in the cloud and don’t need or want their own cloud servers.

“Others need more substantial hosting but don’t have the time or resources to manage their servers. We are opening our doors to both sets of customers.”

Businesses were looking to move away from traditional managed hosting, Davies said, because of the potential inflexibility of some contracts that do not let them scale up or down easily.

“Many ‘cloud hosting’ offerings are traditional hosting in disguise,” he said. “Customers find that the core benefits of cloud, flexibility and the PAYG model, are not there.”
