Eaton updates power management software with load-shedding, automated disaster recovery

Power management company Eaton Corporation has announced an update to its Intelligent Power Manager software, with new load-shedding capabilities and automated disaster recovery execution.

Version 1.5, according to Eaton, builds on its integration with VMware vCentre Site Recovery Manager.  It is now designed to synchronize VMs and is able to automatically initiate execution of a disaster recovery plan to avoid data loss and reduce downtime during a power event.

Furthermore, IT can prioritize groups of VMs within vCentre Site Recovery Manager.

“The power management software provides capabilities for end-users to set specific times for VMs to shut down during a power event, and the solution is engineered to keep critical applications up-and-running while shutting down non-essential machines for enhanced flexibility and protection,” Eaton said in a statement.  “For increased ease of operation, Intelligent Power Manager software installs into several virtual management systems and can read attributes from both power equipment and environmental data such as temperature and humidity.”

The Intelligent Power Manager works with Eaton power management solutions, including uninterruptible power systems, enclosure power distribution units and other power devices, through the VMware vSphere 5.5 virtualization platform.

Version 1.5 is available in a basic package that is free for up to 10 nodes, “in addition to an advanced platform that offers end-users more functionality and features up to 100 nodes for an optimized power monitoring and management system,” the company said.
