Dell unveils new thin client solutions

Dell has released a series of redesigned mobile thin client machines targeted at workers who travel for business but also need critical intellectual property and data to be secured.

These new thin clients are capable of securely access cloud applications and data remotely, while also presenting workers with manageability options. These units can also be centrally controlled provided by an IT manager or channel partner through a virtual desktop.

At the top of this line-up is the Dell Latitude E7270 and Latitude 3460 mobile thin clients. These two devices integrate the manageability and security of Wyse thin clients. Based on Windows Embedded Standard 7 64-bit, the devices are able to power graphics-intensive applications. They are built with Intel dual core processors with integrated graphics, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, and an extended battery life.

Both mobile thin clients offer connectivity options and ports such as USB 3.0, HDMI, gigabit Ethernet, and WLAN and Bluetooth options.

Dell is also providing docking stations, keyboard and mice options, and monitors to support this release.

The Latitude E7270 and Latitude 3460 mobile thin clients support all VDI protocols and can connect to all of the major brokers including Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware Horizon. The mobile thin clients use the Wyse Device Manager to deliver over-the-air configuration and policy management, or through the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. IT managers are also able to scale administration from just a few to tens of thousands of mobile thin clients through this process.

The mobile thin clients can be protected against advanced persistent threats and malware with Dell Data Protection Threat Defense solution, according to the company. This threat prevention solution uses artificial intelligence and machine learning against malware, ransomware and zero day threats on all Windows thin clients. This advanced new technology does not require daily signature file downloads.
