Dell stresses security & design in new Latitude ultrabooks, laptops

Dell has made a number of updates to its Latitude line of commercial PCs, with new ultrabooks and laptops, with new touch offerings and a focus on both security and design.

New is the Latitude 7000 series of business-class ultrabooks, the 5000 mid-range laptop series, and the 3000 entry-level laptop series. All are available with touch display options and run Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS.

“These exciting new additions to the Latitude line provide our commercial customers with what they’ve been asking for by bringing touch capability to the workspace at desirable price points,” said Kirk Schell, vice-president of Dell’s commercial computing group, in a statement. “The new Latitude 7000 Series builds on the success of the award-winning XPS and Latitude 6430u to redefine the corporate laptop, complete with security, manageability, reliability and beautiful design.  And with the Latitude 5000 and 3000 Series, we’ve addressed the needs of today’s dynamic workforce by enabling easy entry into business-class computing.”

Dell’s Latitude 7000 Series meet Intel’s Ultrabook standard, which means thin and light and powered by Intel ultra-low voltage processors. The 12” model starts at 20mm thin and (2.99 pounds), and is designed for business and IT management with integrated management capabilities such as Dell-unique Intel vPro extensions and automated tools that plug into Microsoft System Center and Dell KACE. They also have comprehensive encryption, advanced authentication and malware protection, and are built with aluminum, a Tri-metal chassis and Corning Gorilla Glass NBT.

The Latitude 5000 and 3000 Series laptops include 14.1” and 15.6” designs with a variety of configurations available, including up to Intel’s Core i7 ultra low voltage processors, a discrete graphics option and SSD or Performance Solid State Hybrid Drive options. They also use Corning Gorilla Glass NBT on the touch displays, and a variety of mobile broadband, Bluetooth and Wireless LAN options are available.

The Latitude 3000 Series is Dell’s newest line of entry-level commercial laptops for education and small business customers. The Latitude 14 and 15 3000 Series laptops offer:

The 7000 Series begins at $1,099 CAD; it’s available now with the exception of touch-enabled displays which are coming Sept. 12. The 3000 series launches Sept. 12 starting at $599, and the 5000 series will launch in October.
