Andrew Orlowski wriites why Nokia’s profit margins may soon be restored.
“Nokia can start restoring its diminishing profit margins later this year with the release of the N8, announced today. It’s the first Symbian^3 phone, and so the first to be based on new code written since Nokia acquired Symbian and then spun it out to become an anarcho-syndicalist commune in 2008. The N8 might signal the start of a comeback when it appears in Q3.”

RIM shows off BlackBerry 6 on video

Vladislav Savov provides some details about RIM’s BlackBerry 6 operating system.
“While RIM’s WES 2010 keynote is still ongoing, the company’s YouTube channel has kindly released the first teaser video for the incoming BlackBerry 6 operating system. There’s a lot of movement on screen — so much, in fact, that it’s almost like RIM really doesn’t want you to see the OS at all. We did catch sight of a Cover Flow-aping music organizer, an onscreen keyboard engaging in some threaded messaging, Facebook and Twitter clients, and even the briefest of glimpses at that famed WebKit-based browser. Interaction in the video is done via touch, but you’ll naturally be able to utilize the new interface on more conventional, touch-less devices as well.”
Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ beta now available for download, brings improved UI and streaming options

Darren Murph shares some of the new upgrades to Microsoft’s new Windows Home Server solution, which is code-naed “Vail.”
“Microsoft has revealed its public beta of the next version of WHS, code-named ‘Vail.’ The primary upgrades / changes include the extension of media streaming outside of the home or office, improvements in multi-PC backup and restore, simplified setup and user experience as well as ‘significantly”‘expanded development and customization tools for partners.”
