Citrix announces CloudBridge appliances with WAN bandwidth scaling

Citrix today announced the release of two new CloudBridge appliances designed to reduce the cost of scaling WAN bandwidth.

The CloudBridge 400 and 800 combine WAN optimization, application acceleration and management with cloud connectivity to make it easier for IT to support branch offices, according to Citrix.

“While the CloudBridge CSX Solution announced earlier this week is aimed at large branch office locations, the CloudBridge 800 and 400 provide services for SMB and micro-branch locations,” the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company said in a statement.

While the CloudBridge 800 is aimed at SMB offices, and features full WAN optimization, video caching and visibility, the 400 is designed for even smaller locations such as retail kiosks with less capacity.

The technology uses flexible broadband, 4G wireless, or satellite connections instead of (or in addition to ) MPLS capacity to expand WAN bandwidth.  It also uses solid-state drives for higher reliability.

According to Citrix, the CloudBridge 800 offers “up to 10 Mbps of accelerated bandwidth and 50 Mbps of QOS traffic support. In addition, high capacity, high throughput video caching and up to 10,000 TCP connections for small to medium branch deployments delivers five to ten times the connection capacity compared to competitive products.”

Meanwhile, the 400 has 500 to 1,000 TCP connections for micro-branches.  Both are upgradable.

They are now available through authorized Citrix resellers starting at $5,000 for the CloudBridge 800 and at $3,500 for the CloudBridge 400.
