Compugen started off the Channel Elite Awards gala by winning the Best Green Solution Award for its division Compugen Finance’s Green4Good program.
The Green4Good program is an IT asset disposition solution that effectively eliminates the environmental impact of a business function that is critical to virtually every organization – the disposition of end-of-life IT assets – thus contributing to an organization’s ‘sustainable IT’ goals, while at the same time turning the net residual value of decommissioned IT assets into assistance for charitable organizations.
Steve Glover, the senior vice-president of Compugen Finance Inc., based in Richmond Hill, Ont., accepted the award at one of the greenest facilities in Canada – the Earth Rangers site in North Toronto’s Kortright Centre. CDN publisher Brad McBride was on hand to present Glover with the award.
Glover told CDN that he and Compugen were honoured to receive the Best Green Solution award from the Channel Elite Awards. Glover also thanked the Green4Grood vendor partner HP Canada and all the charities involved in the program. “It is my hope that with this CEA award we can promote the program further and help more charities down the road,” he said.While customer cost savings is an important factor in the Green4Good program, the initiative goes beyond good business practices by provided free laptops and software to people in need. For example, the Green4Good program helped Homeward Bound, operated by WoodGreen Community Services. This charity received free laptops, carrying cases, anti-virus software and memory sticks for all 32 women in the WoodGreen Homeward Bound program and free installation of a complete new wireless network infrastructure in the six-story Homeward Bound residence that drastically reduced the cost of Internet services for the 32 families who live there.
The Green4Good program consists of IT Asset Disposition and Charitable Support. The IT Asset Disposition componant takes the approach that eliminates any negative environmental effects and allows organizations to leverage any residual value in those assets. The Charitable Support portion of the program is what the CEA judges though was truly innovative. This part allows organizations to turn the net gains from IT asset disposition into support for their chosen charities.
