Canadian cloud firm expands managed services capabilities

Cloud hosting company CentriLogic of Toronto has launched a new business unit that will deliver virtualization, data centre consolidation and managed IT solutions to customers around the world.

CentriLogic, which has facilities in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom, currently offers professional services and on-demand support to its hosting customers, but its new Advanced Technology Services business unit will extend the company’s managed services capabilities by helping customers plan, transition and implement a fully managed IT model, according to John Abbett, director of the new unit.

The business unit will be supported by a team of CentriLogic employees worldwide with plans to increase headcount based on customer demand. Abbett will run the business unit, reporting directly to Robert Offley, CentriLogic’s CEO.

“With Advanced Technology Services, CentriLogic can help alleviate the burden of ongoing infrastructure and application management experienced by many of our customers,” Abbett said. “Unlike many of our competitors, this business unit enables us to act as an extension of our customer’s IT departments, providing them the ability to refocus their efforts on achieving operational efficiencies, cost-benefits, and strategic developments within their organizations.”

The new services offered by Advanced Technology include:

Data center consolidation: Physical and virtual migration of enterprise level data center components to new locations

Managed applications: Ongoing management of enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft, SalesForce.com, and email

Managed IT: 24/7/365 management  and monitoring of critical IT infrastructure and systems, including Managed UNIX, databases, VMware & Hyper-V, Active Directory, and help desk

Managed data: On and off-premise management of databases, backups, and storage

Managed network: Network infrastructure management including managed routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and security services

With these services, organizations can focus on more strategic projects by leaving day-to-day support tasks and management activities for both on and off-premise infrastructure and application to CentriLogic.

Several CentriLogic customers including personal and document imaging company, Kodak Alaris;  hospitality management company, Delaware North; and Valeant Pharmaceuticals began testing the Advanced Technology Services portfolio early this year.

Advanced Technology Service provided strategic solutions tailored to their specific needs, according Brian Baggett, senior director of business technologies at Delaware North.

“Their efforts to provided simple and effective solutions allowed me to focus on supporting core business activities,” he said.
