Canada’s Privacy Commissioner urges a creative approach to new privacy challenges

Canada’s Privacy Commissioner, Jennifer Stoddart, says privacy professionals must be more strategic and think outside the box in order to solve new privacy challenges.

“Increasingly, those responsible for privacy within organizations need to think outside the box,” says Stoddart.

She explained that due to rapidly changing technologies, hackers are now using new ways of collecting personal information, which leads to increased privacy issues.“My message to privacy professionals is that they need to go beyond the strict requirements of the law and ask the fundamental question: ‘What do we need to do to respect people’s privacy and minimize the intrusion on that privacy?’”
