Blogger becomes AMD’s new channel chief

It’s kind of hard to believe that an executive who is also a blogger would ever be chosen for worldwide channel chief of any organization. But Roy Taylor has that position today as the new AMD’s corporate vice president and head of Global Channel Sales.

Taylor will now be responsible for managing and growing AMD’s channel business globally. The 25-year industry veteran has had a multi-faceted career including that of high tech blogger for Web sites such as TechHollywood.org and Brightsideofthenews.com. Taylor has also been a content strategist and entrepreneur in both start-ups and established companies such as nVidia. He joins AMD from Rightware, a Finland-based software start-up where he was chief sales officer.

Prior to Rightware, Taylor spent about a decade at nVidia where he held a number of leadership roles including vice president of telco relations, vice president content relations and CTO for the PC Gaming Alliance, vice president for GPU sales and vice president of EMEA sales.

It was at nVidia where Taylor established a channel ecosystem for the European business.

Taylor will report to senior vice president and chief sales officer John Byrne. Byrne said that Taylor is well known in the IT industry for his energy, his ability to identify new opportunities and his focus on delivering results. He will be tasked to take AMD’s channel business to the next level.

Bryne added that Taylor’s technology evangelization experience will help strengthen AMD channel business as the company bring new low-power APUs and discrete GPUs to market in 2013.

Besides being a blogger, Taylor is also an avid gamer. Taylor started his career in the component distribution business and was a founder of Addtron, a firm representing sales and marketing for semiconductor leaders such as Aureal, IBM Microelectronics, NEC, and Nexgen. Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Maidstone College, Kent, United Kingdom.

Taylor also co-founded aggregation app start-up Berrin LLC of Hollywood, Calif. He was also the executive vice president & GM of MasterImage 3D, also of Hollywood. MasterImage 3D developed auto stereoscopic 3D solution for smartphones, tablets, cars and avionics.
