B.C. firm launches new UC solutions platform

Unified communications firm CounterPath Corp. of Vancouver is rolling out an enterprise-grade solution platform that aims to make it easier for operators and companies to launch their own over-the-top (OTT) service across different UC-based server applications.

The company said its Stretto Platform, a comprehensive server architecture which supports enriched user experience for existing a new OTT deployments, tightly couples with CounterPath’s Bria, a carrier-grade softphone application that enables organizations to manage their communications from a computer.

As more consumers and businesses adopt new video and social media-based communication platforms, it has become imperative for carriers and enterprise companies to be able to deploy their own services over these platforms in order to provide customers with the UC user experience they expect and demand.

“Internet OTT solutions such as Skype, WhatsApp and Viber have evolved consumer expectations for all communications, both personal and professional, said Todd Carothers, executive vice-president of marketing and products at CounterPath, in a statement.

He said, that in order compete, operators and enterprises need OTT solutions that will not only strengthen customer relations and reduce customer churn but also increase employee productivity but enhance data security and cut operating costs as well.

“When coupled with the Bria client, the Stretto platform enables enterprises and operators to launch their own OTT services across most UC-based server architectures, including Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Broadsoft, Cisco, Ericsson, GENBAND, Metaswitch, NEC and others,” said Carothers. “it not only meet theirs their operational requirements but also ensure an end-to-end user experience that is of the highest quality.

The platform addresses users’ concerns in five key areas:

End user provisioning and support

  • A provisioning module automatically provisions CounterPath clients with over 250 features and settings as specified by IT
  • A user experience metrics module reports critical data, providing summaries of service quality, device usage, feature usage and other information
  • The help desk module enables help desk staff to access an end-user’s Brian application for troubleshooting purposes

Solution support

  • The push notification module comes with a power saver feature, which according to CounterPath provides “near zero” battery loss  on Android and iOS devices when Bria is being run in the background

Service support

  • The contact discovery module allows operators to access the user’s address to identify what other address book contacts are using the service

Convergence support

  • A call & message continuity module enables a single number to map voice, messaging, text and video services over disparate networks and devices
  • The subscriber line proxy module helps cut cost of adding more lines to an existing platform

Messaging and presence support

  • The XMPP messaging and presence module provides an XMPP server for messaging and presence services support for multiple extensions
  • SIP/SIMPLE messaging and presence module provides a SIP?SIMPLE server to support multiple extensions
  • The SMS over IP module enables SMS for wireless providers and mobile operators that want to deliver SMS messages over a Bria client
  • The messaging sync module synchronizes messages across Bria desktop, smart phone and tablet clients

The Stretto Platform will be available in September through CounterPath direct and indirect sales channels.
