What a private Dell means for Canadian operation

At the Dell Power To Do More conference at the brand new Delta Toronto hotel Kevin Peesker, the president of Dell Canada explained to a packed audience of channel partners and customers what a privatized Dell means to him and the Canadian operation.

If you have been living under a rock in the last 18 months Dell became a private organization in Oct. 30th of 2013.

Peesker, as you can imagine, is a great proponent of a privatized Dell. He said when one person owns 70 per cent of the company it’s a powerful statement.

For example, board meetings are made up of just two people. What Peesker is indicating here is that a private Dell has become a faster Dell in terms of go to market.

Here is one example. Peesker told this story at the Power To Do More show today. He was enjoying a March Break vacation with this family when his assistant emailed him that Michael Dell wanted to know if he was in the office.

Peesker describes this experience as surreal. He, of course, contacts Michael Dell to let him know that he is available to him even though he’s on vacation.

Long after most executives have gone home from work, Michael Dell calls Peesker to tell him that he was talking to a Canadian-based channel partner about an SLA component for time to quote that could be improved. Michael Dell wanted to get Peeskers’ opinion on it and asked him if he had seen other example of this in other areas.

After further discussion both men suggested changes along with other tweaks to the channel program. Peesker then got the go ahead from Michael Dell and he was able to implement the changes in three days that fixed the situation.

“Michael Dell is so committed and this is what it means to go private,” Peesker added.
